Sovini Trade Supplies backed Sefton’s Taking Root community initiative to scoop a prestigious prize at the Royal Horticultural Show (RHS), Tatton Park for their ‘Could Car Less’ display.
The independent builders’ merchants who are proudly part of The Sovini Group, donated materials for their sustainable submission.
The submission was designed as a replica of a typical Bootle front garden and features creative and practical ideas for bicycle storage, including an up-cycled bike shed with a and features to encourage urban biodiversity including 70 species of trees, shrubs and perennials.
Combining sustainability and style, the submission scooped a bronze medal in the ‘Greener Gardens’ category.
The award-winning submission was inspired by a project delivered in 2021 by the charity Regenerus as part of its ‘Taking Root in Bootle’ activities. Community gardens were closed during lockdown, so it introduced a front-garden growing project for 80 households to bring nature to their doorstep. The lockdown scheme was a great success in motivating and encouraging communities to green up their small front yards. With many residents having never gardened, it also brought new hobbies and skills to local residents.
Providing free materials such as wood and plastic, fixings and doors, other heavily discounted items, plus free use of the warehouse and necessary labour to cut any materials to size, Sovini Trade Supplies supported the Taking Root submission.
Sovini Trade Supplies are proud to support Taking Root and will continue to do so as they look to promote bio-diversity and community spirit.
