Decade of Success: Speke Branch Manager Ryan Spencer Puts Collaboration and Employee Wellbeing at the Forefront

Decade of Success: Speke Branch Manager Ryan Spencer Puts Collaboration and Employee Wellbeing at the Forefront

This year, we proudly celebrate 10 years in business, with those who have joined us along the way and those who have been there from the very start.

Ryan has been with The Sovini Group, and more specifically, Sovini Trade Supplies, our independent builder’s merchant since the beginning.

“I’m classed as one if the originals.” Ryan jokes.

He began as a picker, working at our first Aintree site on Bridle Road. Soon after, Ryan was promoted to team leader and then key accounts supervisor as part of the sales team.

Ryan progressed further to shop supervisor and then warehouse supervisor before the independent builders’ merchant made yet another move.

On the 1st of February 2021, Sovini Trade Supplies opened its flagship branch on Heysham Road, Bootle, where Ryan was promoted to branch manager.

Within the next year as the business continued to grow and expand across Liverpool, Sovini Trade Supplies opened its Speke branch in 2022. Ryan had the perfect skillset, knowledge, and experience across a multitude of roles to fulfil his current role of Speke branch manager.

“Being the manager at Speke has been the most difficult challenge I’ve had to date. I was introduced to lots of new things that I hadn’t done before, and I had to make some major decisions with my teams’ involvement.” Ryan said.

Over the past 10 years, Ryan has also played a big part in getting the Heysham road branch ready, as well as operationally involved in the setup of our Fleetwood branch. The Speke branch has been Ryans focus, and with lots of operational changes on the horizon, collaboration is key.

“I’ve worked in every department that Sovini Trade Supplies has. Goods in, sales, transport, purchasing, warehouse, and working with new customers with the setup of van stocks.

“I’ve also recently been working with the sales and procurement teams so we can come up with more efficient ways of ordering stock.”

Ryan prides himself on making a difference to the lives of the people he works with.

“Seeing that I’ve had an impact on the people who work here means the most to me. If they’re happy I’m happy.

“None of my or Sovini Trade Supplies success would have been achievable without the people around me. The ideas and motivation I have, all start with our team.”

Ryan reflects on his favourite memories, watching the branches grow from one to five currently and seeing how the business has changed over the last decade.

“We keep changing for the better. I’ve seen that first hand and I’m proud that we can adapt to the change and see it as a positive thing.”

There’s a lot in the pipeline for Sovini Trade Supplies in 2024 as they continue to create opportunities and change lives.

“We’re already starting to bring in new ranges, make operation changes and you can see the growth at Sovini Trade Supplies, Speke each year, with customers increasing and our name becoming more recognisable.”

So, what about the next 10 years?

“I’d like to see us as a nationally recognised brand. I want everyone to know our name and gain a great reputation, no longer the ‘new kid on the block’. We’re already making footprints and people are starting to see it.

“I believe the people who work at The Sovini Group are what make it a great place to work and without them, the laughs, the banter, the ups and the downs, it wouldn’t be the same. Our people are what make Sovini Trade Supplies an ongoing success.”
